BOOK: DOORS OF THE NIGHT
BOOK: DOORS OF THE NIGHT

What kind of people does the Yanuruni Foundation, in cooperation with the NURU Foundation, want to give a better life to? What kind of fate do they have to bear? What scares them and what are their hopes for the future?
During a three-week working stay in the Tanzanian metropolis of Dar es Salaam, the writer Hubert Schaller and the photographer Christopher Schaller, together with the founder of the NURU Foundation, Milena Kavishe Schaller, and Adekadis Kavishe, the founder of the Yanuruni Foundation and translator, tried to get closer to some of the people, to hear their life stories, to read their faces, to listen to their heartbeats. These people are representative of countless others who have suffered the same or a similar fate. We want to give these people, who are barely seen and heard in their daily struggle for survival, a face and a voice. We want to take them out of the darkness for a moment and put them in the NURU light.
What Hubert Schaller and Christopher Schaller have taken from the impressive encounters and the deep, honest conversations - one with words, the other with a camera - is to be made accessible to as many people as possible in the form of a book.
The book was printed in Switzerland, each as a unique copy - bound in Tanzanian fabrics - and is still being sold today. All proceeds go to the projects of the Yanuruni Foundation.
